Dr. Meredith L. Gore

I am a social scientist leading inquiry and applying knowledge to improve the effectiveness of environmental governance and reduce risk to people and the environment. I am motivated by: 1) generating knowledge to help address conservation problems, 2) improving conservation social science methods, and 3) enhancing understanding of risk concepts and their application to conservation. The span of my impact is interdisciplinary, international and community-based. My research is guided by questions such as, “How do different people perceive environmental risks? What factors influence perceptions and how do perceptions influence environmental behavior?” “What are useful ways of measuring perceptions?” and “How can risk communication be most effective to achieve identified goals?”  I joined Michigan State University’s (MSU) Department of Fisheries and Wildlife (60%) and School of Criminal Justice (40%) as an Assistant Professor in January 2008 and was named an MSU Global Research Fellow in 2013.
