Windows Media Player 11 Installation

 

Introduction
The purpose of this document is to help you download and install Windows Media Player for Windows.   Windows Media Player is a media player for various types of video and audio files.  This software might require additional plugins  to play certain media formats.  In this document, we will be installing Windows Media Player 11 on Windows XP.

Downloading Windows Media Player

  1. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx.
  2. Specify what software you want from the drop down menus. (Figure 1)

  1. Once you have specified which version of Windows Media Player that you want to download, select the Download Now button from the bottom. (Figure 2)

  1. Select Save to save this file to your computer. (Figure 3)

 Installing Windows Media Player

  1. Open the installer that you just downloaded. (Figure 4)

  1. Select Run to allow the installer to run. (Figure 5)

  1. You will need to validate your copy of windows before you can install Windows Media Player.  Select the Validate button. (Figure 6)

  1. Select Accept to accept the license agreement. (Figure 7)

  1. Unless you have a need to customize the installation of Windows Media Player, select the "Express Settings" radio button. (Figure 8)
  2. Select Finish.

  1. You will now be prompted to accept the license agreement for URGE.  URGE is an online store built into Windows Media Player.  For more information on URGE, please visit http://www.urge.com/.
  2. Select Accept to install URGE, or Cancel if you do not wish to install URGE.  URGE is not required to use Windows Media Player, and can be installed at a later time. (Figure 9)

  1. If you selected Accept in step 8, please select the the Run button to begin installing URGE.  If you selected Cancel, please refer to step 10. (Figure 10)
