Dr. Riley recently was awarded the 2007-2008 Excellence in Teaching Award by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University. This award recognizes an individual in the college each year who has demonstrated a commitment to quality teaching as evidenced by their contributions to teaching and learning, and documented success in these areas. Recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Award have clearly demonstrated respect and mastery for the subject matter they are teaching, and in some way have gone above and beyond the call of duty in teaching.
Dr. Riley
previously was awarded a 2004-2005 Lilly Fellowship in Teaching by Michigan State
University. The
Lilly Fellows Program awards year-long fellowships for up to nine
faculty members across the university. While studying the scholarship of teaching as a group, Lilly Fellows also work with a senior faculty mentor on
a project designed to enhance the fellows' teaching skills. Shawn studied with Dr. Theodore (Terry) Curry, then Director of MSU's School of Labor and Industrial Relations, on a project entitled,
Improving Environmental Stewardship Through Integration of Leadership
Education in Natural Resources Curricula.
