Background:

Amber Goguen is a University Enrichment Fellow and National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. in human dimensions under the guidance of Dr. Shawn Riley. She completed her M.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife from MSU. Her thesis, titled Sharing and Consuming Wild-Harvested Meat: Providers and Receivers of Venison, explored the extent and mechanisms of wild meat sharing and consumption in Michigan, USA. She earned a B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation and a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

Amber’s graduate research occurs at the intersection of food, wildlife, and people. Her dissertation research seeks to describe and assess how wild meat couples human and natural systems through the provisioning and cultural ecosystem services it provides to society, how these services are distributed through wild meat sharing and consumption, and how formal and informal institutional structures influence the extent of wild meat sharing and the ecosystem services it provides through comparisons between case studies in Michigan and Sweden.
