Amber Peters is a fixed-term faculty member in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife who has taught in the department for 10 years. Through her teaching and mentoring efforts, Dr. Peters influences freshmen to seniors, science majors to art majors. A dedicated, innovative instructor, she finds ways to reach students in classrooms with 35 students to one with almost 200.
She is the 2016 recipient of the Howard and Lili Camden Endowed Teacher/Scholar Award.
With an eclectic teaching load, Dr. Peters draws two full courses in the area of her primary research discipline, marine ecology. She is the lead instructor in a fisheries and wildlife undergraduate seminar course and teaches three nonfisheries and wildlife courses.
Additionally, Dr. Peters is the program coordinator for an undergraduate student exchange program with Shanghai Ocean University. Each summer, 10 Chinese students spend six weeks at MSU, working in research labs and traveling throughout the state.
The Howard and Lili Camden Endowed Teacher/Scholar Award is given in recognition of quality teaching in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. To qualify, the recipient must have five or more years of teaching service in the college. Candidates for this award demonstrate a teaching record that has helped students gain skills conducive to problem-solving and the use of common sense. They have innovative teaching methods and teach a significant number of undergraduate or graduate courses. They demonstrate mentoring in and out of the classroom as well as instructional excellence and scholarly achievement. They are respected by CANR constituent groups through professional involvement.
